The Kluge-Ruhe is the only museum of its kind in the United States: the nation’s top-notch collection of Indigenous Australian art. It is the world’s oldest continuous art tradition, more than 60,000 years in the making, but the artwork is also diverse, sophisticated, dynamic and contemporary.
The museum has caught the interest of collector-celebrity Steve Martin, who called Kluge-Ruhe one of his favorite places in Virginia! With a variety of displays throughout, there’s sure to be a favorite for everyone. See for yourself by previewing the current exhibits here.
While the space is on the smaller side, exhibitions change constantly and the museum works closely with Indigenous artists, making the experience even richer. Not far from the famous Monticello, the museum includes a beautiful backyard view of the city and a one-of-a-kind gift shop.
